Andy is "front runner" in Labour election

Andy Kerr, MSP for East Kilbride, is already considered the front-runner for the leadership of he Labour Party in Scotland.

Andy had a background in local government and union involvement before being elected to represent the East Kilbride constituency in 1999 and was a senior member in the previous Scottish government.

As a politican, he is respected across all parties and there are those who believe he is the only person with enough stature to command attention when challenging Alex Salmond at First Minister's Questions.

In the latter half of the 20th century East Kilbride grew from a rural Lanarkshire village to become Scotland's sixth largest town. Today East Kilbride, located close to Glasgow and the main motorway routes, is a central  base for business, a great place to live, shop, work and play, and an ideal jumping-off location for touring many exciting locations in Scotland.

A £400m redevelopment of East Kilbride town centre has been given the go-ahead by South Lanarkshire Council. The plan will see the demolition of some existing landmark buildings and a 10 year construction project. Read more about the redevelopment of East Kilbride Town Centre
